UMI
Kathryn, affectionately known as Umi, is a securities and corporate attorney licensed in California, with licensing pending in Washington. Beyond her legal career, she is a dedicated part-time coach for entrepreneurs, drawing from her extensive background in suicide prevention counseling, childhood trauma therapy, and guiding high achievers to navigate the complexities of high-stress environments and success-driven ambitions.
Nicknamed Umi by the grandmother who raised her, she discovered early solace in writing short essays and poetry after immigrating to the United States as a child. As English was not her native language, Umi faced speech impediments, turning instead to the quiet power of reading and privately expressing her thoughts through writing. Her heartfelt words gained traction in 2011 when she began sharing her poetry and reflections on Tumblr (@1112pm), quickly amassing a dedicated following. In 2018, during her time in law school, Umi self-published a collection of three short books of poetry and prose: "Bitter A Little (苦一點)," "Love You On and On," and "He's My Rushmore." Selling over 1,500 copies, this passion project allowed her to contribute all royalties to charity, underscoring her deep belief and commitment to giving back.
Today, Umi harmoniously blends her legal practice with her enduring passions for writing and coaching. She is an active participant in Neil Strauss's Writer's Round Table, aiming to formally publish her upcoming book by mid-2026. Her advocacy for personal resilience, sustainability, and reconnecting with our often-neglected inner child, playfulness and creativity resonates globally, particularly inspiring younger generations.
Umi's coaching program maintains a focused and personalized approach, limited to five individuals monthly for consistent weekly sessions, although occasional one-on-one calls are available by request. Those interested in the program or wishing to discuss individual needs are encouraged to reach out directly via email at umikthryn@gmail.com or schedule a virtual consultation by
